2020's Skating Style
2020's Skating Style; Response
Within his blog, Andrew makes many claims about skating evolution since the 90's. Some of these claims are somewhat agreeable about the methods of skating themself, but when it comes to fashion within skating Andrew is just flat-out wrong. With claims such as "Some modern teenagers find skating cool, though it wasn’t as accepted in the 90s." these are just flat-out wrong the 90s were skating PRIME and to say they weren't accepted is a crazy take. I would even go on to say that skating is LESS accepted now due to the number of posers when in the 90s it was a real interest and skill. While yes there are accurate claims such as how skating made its way to the Olympics but then the most famous skater ever, Tony Hawk, is not mentioned in this argument of professional skating competitions. So while yes skateboarding has widened its horizons I would still debate that the 90s were the prime.Don't even get me started on Andrew's claim about skater fashion from the 90s to now. In Andrew's blog, he compares a photo of a '90s skating outfit and a current skating outfit and states their differences. In the 90s example, the skater is wearing; vans, straight-leg jeans, and a striped shirt, with his hair styled in a round haircut. In the current photo, the skater is wearing; Jordans, baggy jeans, and a long sleeve layered with a short sleeve, with his hair styled voluminously. This current outfit that Andrew is stating is so different from the classic 90s outfit is LITERALLY a 90s outfit. The layered shirt look was a huge trend in the 90s, jordans gained popularity in the 90s, voluminous hair was VERY common in the 90s, and lastly, baggy jeans and clothing were the BIGGEST trend of all of the 90s. So to say that the skater style now is so different from the iconic 90s skater style is just a blatantly wrong statement. While yes I see where Andrew is coming from with this statement he comes off sort of under-researched on the topic, an example of this is that when I stated this argument to him he said "What how? Jordans went even around in the 90s." This is crazy when Jordans CAME OUT in the 90s. So in conclusion, Andrew seems new to the skating community and with time will form stronger opinions and preferences within this community.
